New album preview #1 – Glasnost

Not the new album cover

As promised earlier, here is the first instalment of the lyric / track listing preview of our new album, Glasnost – which will be released later in 2010 via Headroom Records.

Perhaps a little controversially, we’ve decided to start the album with the title track, Glasnost. A lot of you have heard this track before (we’ve been playing it live since September ’09) – it’s much quicker and more to the point than anything we’ve done before but we felt it really sets the tone for the rest of the album with its open and direct sound.  I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Lyrically, it’s also something of a departure for me… and I don’t just mean it because I’m not writing about being pissed off with “the man” – I’ve done that before with other tracks, although admittedly I am generally quite unhappy with “the man”).

Glasnost deals with new subjects, new horizons, different ways of seeing things.  Which in itself is a good representation of the album as a whole.  The evolution of a band constantly in a moment of change.

glasnost

the confession that you made
as she pulled you under
was in the distance in your eyes

it changes everything
and everything changes

but this is only a feeling
escape is in the mind
because who we are is all i have

it changes everything
and everything changes

The meaning? I’ll leave that one to you.  To me, it’s about accepting change.  But we all see things differently…

I think that would be pretty cool for an album cover

It would! But we can’t use it unfortunately :(

Very deep. Can’t wait to hear it. Glasnost…openness…freedom of speech, and yet you capture a moment where so much is being said without words. I like ! (Or have I drunk too much) : S
