Glasnost review on This Is Not A Scene (9/10)

GlasnostJust over 2 years ago Illuminatus made people take notice with their debut album ‘The Wrath of the Lambs’, now with their new 11 track gem they are ready to take their place at the main table of rock. ‘Glasnost’ is a masterclass in song writing with power and intensity, and atmosphere and melodic creativity. The music is structured and driven wrapping around the precise and insightful lyrics perfectly.

The first track ‘Glasnost’ starts life with an almost Breed 77 like guitar intro before bursting into a full on delight of metal at its best, unrelenting until the last note, then a moment’s pause before ‘Murdocracy’ continues the journey of noise. Each track takes us through emotions, from sorrowful laments to defiant opinion, in words and sound delivering their creativity as a band and individuals.

Glasnost Review on Dead Earnest

Glasnost“My reviews are known for going into copious detail on a track by track basis, only on occasion an album comes along that I put on the player and, swept along by its charms, I end up enjoying to such a degree that I just listen to the whole thing in one go without even thinking of dissecting the thing for a review, on the grounds that the sum is greater than the individuals.

What you get here are 11 faultless tracks of modern metal perfomed largely at mid-pace but possessing an intensity that would fit many a band operating at a much faster pace. The depth of production is staggering as the sound of a plethora of guitars range from riffing to ringing over rhythms and beats that hammer down with dynamic effect rather than punishing pace, al absolutely spot on for the arrangements.

The vocals are sung, hollered, always discernible and the songs are totally enthralling, hypnotic and complete outpourings of passion – delivered with the same intensity and electrifying effect as the playing, often even more so.

From start to finish, you’re just hooked to the thing, not wanting to skip to the next track, completely happy just to let the whole 11 tracks wash over you like a warm slow-motion tidal wave. It’s one glorious song after another, one pounding slice of excellently arranged and played metal after another, and all performed with unnervingly electrifying results – in short, one stunner of an album.”

Glasnost review (9/10) on My Global Mind

GlasnostWhat a strange feeling I got the other day when I received this promo from Illuminatus cover artwork for their sophomore release “Glasnost”. I actually thought I was looking at something deeper hidden in it’s message on that darkly gloomy newspapper covering a gentleman’s face, perhaps I bumped into a band with a something more to their music then meets the eye? Ahh yes I stand corrected the Nottingham outfit has been digging deep for a few years in the alternative metal circuit and has been widely getting some much deserving recognition, especially after their title debut record “The Wrath Of The Lambs”.
