New album preview #3 – Division

Morally impaired

Hello all… apologies for the delay in this 3rd instalment of the album previews, we were busy planning domination (and finishing off the album)

Next up is track 3 on the album… simply known as ‘Division’ – now, I have a secret to share.  Some of you who have been with the band since the early days will recognise some these lyrics… they were part of an old track of ours called The Human Method, a song that we haven’t played live for many years now.  I was always so attached to these lyrics that I never really wanted the let the song go, so I figure I would simply recycle them (isn’t that what a good liberal like me should be doing?) and give them a new lease of life.

The funny thing is the song itself (or at least the main riff) is also recycled from an old track that Leo had kicking around from one of his old bands – once again it was something that he didn’t want to go wasted so we decided to bring it back to life as something new.  The result is a huge, heavy track with the most anthemic chorus we’ve ever produced.

Lyrically it deals with the more intellectually challenged percentage of our society, and the way blind faith in a dogmatic cause simply perpetuates the reasons why a war or problem exists in the first place, backed up by a never-ending stream of news and (mis)information from television networks, who in turn created the political machines that put us in the mess in the first place.

This song is punctuated by Keep Calm and Carry On, later on in the album and preceded by Murdocracy in terms of the lyrical concept.

Here’s the words:

Division

a madman stares through the looking glass and holds us in his hands
the endless chant of the war machine on your TV screens
the future of our way of life depends on this

for those of you who are morally impaired
the president will be crying in your place
but we’re only doing what we know is best for you
the way it’s always been here

revenge will be at six today, just before the evening news
the endless chant of the war machine on your TV screen
the future of our way of life depends on this

for those of you who are morally impaired
the president will be crying in your place
but we’re only doing what we know is best for you
the way it’s always been here
